Powerful Intercession Brings Victory

What is Intercession?

Intercession is defined as closing the gap (standing in) between God and people when the person is unable to do so themselves. Pleading with God for our needs and the needs of others. Taking a hold of God’s will and refusing to let go. An unselfish act that moves God. The Hebrew word for intercession means hitting the mark. As a picture, we are standing between God and a person or people praying and hitting the target for their needs, be that healing, deliverance, peace, comfort. What ever the need, we are able to bridge the gap between their faith and God with our faith.

What is an intercessor?

An intercessor is prayer warrior. Often prompted by the Holy Spirit (prayer burden), the intercessor goes boldly to the throne room, in the presence of God and petitions for the needs of others not letting go until released by God and the answer is received. The Intercessors prayer perseveres (persists, maintains a purpose in spite if difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement, continue steadfastly), prevails (to be or to prove superior in strength, power or influence), travails (painfully difficult or burdensome work, anguish or suffering resulting from mental or physical hardship), presses in and pursues with all deliberate speed. Intercession is also a type of warfare. A weapon that can pull down strongholds in the spirit realm and protect from or counter an attack of the enemy. The intercessor listens for the heart of God and prays accordingly. The fervent prayer of the righteous avails much.

God wants to hear from His children

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

When we need grace or mercy, prayer is always the answer. We can go boldly to the throne of God because we are His children and He loves us deeply. We are even urged to pray for others in Ephesians 6:18. He wants us to go to Him with everything. Have you ever gotten frustrated because your children are tattling on each other. That isn’t our Heavenly Father! He has patience with us until we understand our authority as royal priests to speak to our situations, to speak His word and see it come to pass. As believers it is our responsibility to intercede on the behalf of others. We decree Gods word and declare it done! We are mighty warriors for the King of kings.

Praying for nations

We are to pray for people, regions and nations!¬†Ezekiel 22:30 says, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” The Lord is longing for us to pray for these things. He wants to bring His kingdom to the earth and His Kingdom comes with power but someone must pray it forth. He has called us to partner with Him to bring heaven to earth. God may ask you to intercede for your own nation or even others. We should pray for the region we live in as well that we might live in peace.

 A call to action

We are all to be prayer warriors, intercessors. The bible is full of prayers that others have prayed. There are many places where we are called to pray. We should pray without ceasing. Keep the lines of communication with God open. If he lays something on our heart we can pray then and there. We don’t have to always be travailing in prayer. We can speak to God as thought He was right beside us (because He is). Yes we should have times of prayer, times of fasting and worship. But God should be central, not just a side note to our day. Lift others up today as needs present themselves. You can pray quietly as you work. Its a beautiful relationship!
